Over the past century, Brienz, a tiny village in the Canton of Graubünden in Switzerland has moved a few centimetres each year due to erosion. It is one of the most geomorphologically active locations in the Alps.

But in recent weeks, the around 84 villagers had to evacuate as two million cubic metres of rock from the mountain above the village is set to come loose and crash down.

The magnitude of the event remains unclear, but the acceleration of the rock has picked up and the frequency of smaller rocks tumbling down is increasing.

Laura Baehny reports on the rockslide that could happen at any moment.
